It is solidified lava, rich in aluminium and silicates, which is natural volcanic glass, formed after past volcanic eruptions, and due to the speed of the solidification, there was no crystallisation. Obsidian measure 5.5- 6 on the Mohs scale, and although it is more prevalent in Volcanic regions, examples are also found in countries such as the USA and Mexico. The most common colour is Black and other variations are also possible, including the sought after rainbow, and snowflake, which is more common in Italy and Iceland.   STONE PROPERTIES Obsidian removes negative emotions, and brings to the fore our dormant spiritual powers.
