It is a silicon mineral and belongs in the group of tectosilicate minerals. Lapis Lazuli has strong blue color, due to Lazurite, which is the main component of Lapis Lazuli. It contains also calsite (white), sodalite (blue) and pyrite (“gold” shimmers). It is characterized by the hardness of 5-5.5 on the Mohs and the Isometric crystal system.
