About Maxine Noel “Maxine Noel, also known by her Sioux name Ioyan Mani, meaning “Walk Beyond,” is a distinguished Canadian First Nations artist of Santee Oglala Sioux heritage. Born in 1946 on the Birdtail Reserve in Manitoba, she is the eldest of eleven children.
